Elder Care Field Guide

Editorial policy

Sources

We build each guide on primary sources: Medicare.gov, Medicaid.gov, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the National Institute on Aging, the Social Security Administration, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Federal Trade Commission, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and state agencies. When we use figures from a private organization, we name it, link to it and use only what its terms allow.

Figures and dates

Every amount on the site comes from a single data file with its source and the date we checked it. Medicare and Medicaid amounts usually change each January, and VA amounts each October. We review those pages when the new figures are published. Each guide shows the date it was last reviewed.

What we do not do

  • No medical, legal or financial advice for individual situations, no dosing information and no prognoses.
  • No recommendations of specific insurers, funeral homes, care communities or products.
  • No paid placements or referral fees from care providers.
  • No prices we cannot source. If good public data does not exist, we say so.

Corrections

If you find a mistake, tell us through the contact page. We check it against the source, fix it, and update the review date.
